in Taos

Those are the lower slopes of Taos Mountain across the valley behind the birds.

Like a prayer. Beautifully peaceful and innocent. Even if they are magpies –
blessings to you and your beloved for this coming year, John. And if you need money to have your teeth fixed, put the call out, I’ll be one of your toothsayers. Stay strong, it’s gonna be windy and I don’t mean the weather, I am a Cassandra too.

Hi Gillian!

The teeth are good, thanks. My last checkup a few weeks ago produced the first “all-clear” I’ve had in a decade. As for the rest, I think you’re right, and in this as in many other areas, the UK is something of a harbinger. I’ve read extensively about the new regime over there, the demonstrations, and all. It’s going to be an interesting year for all of us.

As seen in your photo John….I have always wondered what the “ridge line” of trees is (or seems to be ) that goes from the lower left up the right side of Taos mountain??? Is it just my imagination? Or is that an actual pathway or rio….etc?? Just curious if you have any idea….I always see it in photos and in person when looking at the mountain….but have never been close enough to see for myself – or asked anyone else what it is….??? Thanks for any info you can provide…..and Happy New Year to you and your wife….and hopefully you get some new croc’s soon! : )

There’s no way to know, Steve. Pueblo land and all, sacred and off limits to the likes of me and you. Just enjoy it! 🙂

Believe me I DO enjoy it….but was also curious….I remember sitting under one of the few shade trees at the Taos Pueblo….(near the rio) and pondering what it could be….just sort of funny how many times I look at the mountain and do NOT see it….then suddenly there it is again….but as you say….WE ain’t invited there to check it out….but I also recall reading in Mabel Dodge Luhan’s book about a horse trail she rode on with her Taos Pueblo husband, Tony, when they once journeyed to the Blue Lake….and even something about a Sacred CAVE that is about halfway up the mountain?!? Just more things to ponder – but, as you said before, it is off limits to the likes of us ….and our “inquiring minds” !! : )

That was a long time ago with Mabel and Tony. I doubt that would happen today, even if an outsider marries a Native. Now, you can from time to time arrange for paid trips with a Pueblo guide—at least that used to be the case—but you know damn well you’d never be taken to any “sacred cave.”

But all the mountains are full of such things. You just have to explore. 🙂

Yep – I agreee….just wish I had the time and money to be able to do so….and envy you that pleasure of being able to get out and about in the Taos Beauty….AND….with my “retirement” beginning….perhaps we will manage another journey to el Norte (FINALLY)….
and stay at a friends condo which is close to the mountain….then perhaps get a better grasp on what it might be….If nothing else….do as YOU say….and “just explore”….thanks for taking the time to reply John….
Stay Warm….and get some new croc’s !! : )
