You are absolutely right….we don’t….and it sucks! AND….just one more reason I want to live somewhere in el Norte!!! BUT…..guess I just have to wait a bit longer….still healing from my back surgery and wondering if I will be able to go back to work….or go on disability…..WHICH….in that case….I WOULD MOVE there ASAP!!! I will keep you apprised….if you keep posting these wonderful photos and writings…..Thanks John for HOPE!!
( Just ONE of the reasons I love your website!!)
If you’re willing to fit in, you could live somewhere like this with checks in the mail, so to speak. There’s not much else, which is of course the appeal. This particular valley has been threatened by wind turbine development, however. I don’t know if the residents stopped it yet or not. Would have to google what’s been going on recently in San Miguel County.
As for the well, I don’t know if it actually functions, but at least it’s there! And these people do care about each other.
and THAT….(“people caring”…) is EXACTLY what I am talking about!
And with that….and the beauty…and the WHATEVER Attitudes….I think I could “squeeze in”….?!!? HOPEFULLY….We will find out…..
Sounds like T-Boone Pickens is trying to get his energy plan into New Mexico….hmmmmm not sure I like that……
By “fit in,” I meant of course that moving specifically to a village like Villanueva is largely a matter of being open and humble. Outsiders would be welcomed if they don’t throw their weight around, etc. Not that you would! But that’s what I’m talking about. After all, these folks have been here over 400 years.
You have to have friends and be neighborly. Some of these little places have real problems with heroin addiction and so forth, so the good guys need to stick together.
