We have GOT to drive to Taos via this route ….(Mora etc….) Not only from your photos and writings about the area….but because we have friends who have done so….and stopped to buy raspberries etc…..and it all just looks so beautiful….(like that is different anywhere in el Norte….!!) But thanks again for the photo and reminder! When, by the way, did you make this little cruise….recently? Just being nosey……(and was it in conjunction with your trip to Villanueva etc??? Again…..”nosey” etc…..but mostly wishful thinking and planning for the future or “Faraway – Nearby” …Georgia…)
Hi Steve!
Mora County is beautiful and poor. That about sums it up. Not to insult anyone, but isolation and lack of infrastructure take a toll. For living off the land, this could be a good area. For jobs or “civilized” amenities, probably not.
This is on the road between Las Vegas, NM and Taos. I used it coming and going on my recent trip to Austin to see my sister. Villanueva is south of Las Vegas, and I chose to come that way on the way back so I could check it out. All the images in this current “On the Road” series are from this road trip, of course.
Gotcha….and thanks for the info….and my sympathies to you in regards to your sister…..I am sorry for your pain and hers…..
I will focus on the beauty of New Mexico that you share with us….and wish that Beauty and Peace for your sister………….
Thanks, Steve. My sister is facing death with great enlightenment and courage, actually “looking forward to the adventure.” I hope I can do the same someday.
